EU Report highlights significant barriers for LGBTI people
March 18, 2016
The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), launched a report on March 16th, dealing with basic but important issues for Europe’s LGBTI population.
The report, ‘Professionally Speaking: challenges to achieving equality for LGBT people’, focuses on the challenges LGBT people in the EU still face when interacting with public officials and service providers as well as on the outdated and damaging information still in circulation.
The report also shows that, among others, comprehensive training programs for employees are recommended to create awareness and increase understanding.
Workplace Pride Foundation sees this type of research as crucial to understanding how all workplaces can be improved so that LGBTI people can be themselves and that their contribution at work is valued. The Foundation is currently working with the EU Commission on a project identifying best practices among employers for the LGBT business case, however it is also clear from the FRA report that there is still a great deal of work to be done.
