Pride Business Forum in Prague Highlights Work to be Done
August 26, 2015
For the 5th year in a row, Pride Business Forum in Prague addressed the topic of LGBT workplace inclusion in the Czech Republic. The event was particularly successful and saw a turnout of nearly 200 participants. Highlights included a presentation by Lord John Browne and moderation by Evan Davis of the BBC.
What was striking though was that, despite the increasingly liberal and open environment for LGBT people in Prague, there is still much to be gained with creating workplaces where LGBT people can be themselves. A number of organizations cited obstacles with talking about your private life at all at work, with this seen as being a barrier to more LGBT people coming out of the closet. Likewise, while many international employers are making positive strides with LGBT inclusion, most Czech companies do not have the resources or motivation for such programs.
Despite the fact that there is clearly still work to be done, Pride Business Forum and the organizers of Prague Pride have made huge advances in bringing LGBT inclusion in society and in the workplace to the attention of the Czech population. Workplace Pride was honored to have been part of this event and is committed to helping our members and other LGBT-focused NGO’s make progress on this topic.
Finally, in addition to main sponsor IBM, we were happy to see delegates of Workplace Pride Member’s Sodexo, Arcadis and TNT at the event. Together we can make a huge difference!
